(From Our Special Correspondent.) » A very enjoyable social wag held in St. Augustine's Hall last evening;, under tho auspices of tho Petono Tennis Club. Tho chaperones were Mrs. Bennett, Mrs. Rennie, find Mrs. Cochrane, and umonit those present were: Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Mason, Mts. Reid, Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Caverhill, Miss Bennett, Miss Cochrane, Jliss Colquhoun, the Misses Walters, . Miss Caverhill, Miss Cumetti, Miss Utlv, the Misses Findlay, Miss Johnston, Miss Norton. At tho annual meeting of tho Hutt Bowling and Tennis Club on Tuesday evening, tho presidont (Mr. C. Holland) stated that an added vnluo of over i!2SU had been mudo to tho club's' property by tho voluntary work and contributions of members and the croquet-playing ladies. The report snowed a credit in the improvement fund of -S4U (ufter repayment of jG37 borrowed from the general account. Tho annual distribution of prizes in connection with the Potoiie Defence Riflo Club took place last evening. Mv. S. V. Burridge, president presided. Tho prize-winners were as follow:—-W H. Ballinger (champion), J. Carter (runner-up), W. J. M'llvride, and A. Ballinger (equal). 3. Pearson Cup: \V. J. MMlvrido. (won outright), First series. A Class: J. Carter. 1; W. Nicholson, 2; A. Tho president was presented with a canteen of cutlery by Mr. R, E. Flaws, on behalf of tho club, as a mark of esteem.
A farewell, "social" was given to Mr. and Mrs. Jansen in the Jackson Street, Methodist Church on Wednesday evening. During the evening Mr. and Mrs. Jansen were presented with a silver hot-wntor jug by members of tho church.
