LIGHTS OUT!

PARLIAMENT IN THE DARK. Much amusement was created hi tho House of Representatives last night by a sudden loss of light. At 10.35 p.m., when the Prime Minister was speaking, every light in tho Chamber and in the building suddenly went out, as a result of the blowing out of a fuse at tho city powerhouse. For a moment or two tho Chamber was in total darkness and tliero was a burst of hearty laughter. Presently matches were struck all round the House and members jocularly invited Mr. Mnssey to continue bis speech. The Speaker, however, left the chair, announcing tint lie would resume it when tho lights were restored. From the Opposition sk.c came such remarks as: "Lead Kindly Light," and "Coming Events Cast Their Shadows Before."

The darkness continued only for two minutes and the search for caudles had scarcely begun when the lights gradually camo in again.

As the Prime Minister resumed his speech he jestingly remarked that the gentlemen on the other side evidently loved the darkness rather than the li»ht because their ways wero evil.
