COAL OUTCROPS.

IN WELLINGTON PROVINCE,

Tho member for Wellington East (Dr. Newman) is over anxious that tho Government should do something to exploit the oonl outcrops in. the Wellington province. Ho asked tho Minister for .Alines recently whether he would instruct tho Gcoßraphic.nl Department to inspect and report upon the various coal outcrops in the Wellington provinoe, with the object of providing cheaper coal for the people. Tho Hon.'W. Eraser (Minister for Mines) replied yesterday as follows: "Ample information regarding tho coal deposits in the Wellington district is furnished in. the reports of Mr. J. C. Crawford, Sir J. Hector, Mr. Alex. M'Kay, Mr. S. 11. Cox, Professor .1. Park, Dr. J. M. Bell, and others. These reports ore/ available to any persons desirous of engaging in the coal-inining industry within that district. I fear tho work now engaging tho attention of tho Director of Geological Survey will occupy tho wJiolo of his time for tho next twelve months at least."
