PHILOSOPHICAL SOCIETY.

Professor Enslcrfielil presided at Inst night's meeting of the Philosophical Society, which was held in tho Dominion Museum. Seventeen now members wero declared cleeted t<y the council. On the motion of Mr. P. G. Morgan, it was decided "(hat a geological section of the society bo formed." Professor T. A. Hunter read a paper on "Experimental Psychology in Australasian Universities." Ho traced the history of the movement, to show that, where there had been experiment there had been progress, but where experiment had not been resorted to (hero hud been stagnation. A discussion followed, and eventually Professor Kirk moved, and Mr. P. Levi seconded, a motion endorsing the recommendations of tho Australian authorities "that it is in the interests of higher education that additional university education lie provided in tho department of Philosonhy—more especially in the subjects of sociology and experimental psychology."—Carried. The chairman then read a paper, liy Mr. D. .Tenness, on "Tho Natives of Sauth-cast Papua." It was explained, inter alia, that the paper had been written on the steamer between New Zealand ami America, when Mr. Jenness had not hail the advantage of a library nt lrnnd.
