ENGINE-ROOM STAFF GIVE NOTICE. By Telegranli—PTeaa As»o«i».tion-OoDyriEM (Reo. July 25, 9.30 pan.) Sydney, July 25. Trouble has arisen between the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand and the Australasian Institute of Marino Engineers over the company's action in deducting half e. day's pay for Saturday afternoon, from the engine-room staff on the Niagara. At noon to-day tho staff gave twentyfour hours' notice. The men claim that the company is not justified in deducting the amount of pay in question since 'the New Zealand and Sydney agreement distinctly stipulates that the men will not work on Saturday afternoon unless sailing on that day. It is understood that negotiations have commenced. The Niagara is due to sail on Monday for Vancouver, via Auckland.
