POLICE OUTWITTED.
SUFFRAGETTES IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS. By Teleeraph-Press iesooiation-Ooprright London, July 21. A Suffragette deputation to Mr. Reginald M'Kenna, Home Secretary, surprised the police, and entered the precincts of the House of Commons. The police tried to eject them, and there was an unseemly scuffle in St. Stephen's Hall. Mrs. Pethick Lawrence and two other ladies were arrested. NEW CRUSADE PLANNED. (Sydney "Sun" Special-July 25, 6.10 p.m.) . London, July 25. It is announced that the Suffragettes have decided upon a. revival of "militant" tactics, on a larger scale. It is declared that only a small proportion of the women have been called out yet, and it is now determined to draw upon their resources and force the Government to realise that it cannot crush the 6pirit of the women. MELEE AT ST. STEPHEN'S. (Roc. July 25, 11.20 p.m.) • London, July 25. Mrs. Pankhurst has been released from custody; in a critical condition. Suffragettes had intended to present a memorial to Parliament against the "Cat-and-Mouse" Act. Some of them were admitted to St. Stephen's Hall, and, accompanied by Sir Edward Busk (a wellknown educationist) and Mrs. Pethick Lawrence, attempted to address members. A violent scene followed, and an umbrella was broken over a policeman's head, while another chased members •with a hatpin. Mrs. Lawrence, Miss Sharp, and Lady Sybil Smith were arrested.
