ACCLIMATISATION.
CONCLUSION OP CONFERENCE. The annual conference of the New Zealand Acclimatisation Societies' Associa/tion was concluded yesterday, when the resolutions arrived at on the previous day were laid before tho Minister for luteruul Affairs (the Hon. 11. I). Bell). The various resolutions (which were published yesterday) were explained by the president (Mr. L. 0. 11. Tripp) and other delegates. The Minister, in his reply, said that most of the remits before liim seemed to be reasonable. The pea-rifle question had given him a great deal of trouble, and lie had already expressed the opinion that the thing ought to be prohibited altogether. There would be a Bill this year which he hoped would prevent the use of tho weapon by incompetent people. Ho thought a gun license would do something, and lie would have liked to have heard an expression of opinion from tho conference on this subject. The weapon was so generally used, and the trade in it was so extensive that he could not go so far as ho would like, and prohibit it altogether. Tho Postmaster-General was as insistent in his demands for regulation as the Minister for Agriculture, every year his Department had to stand a heavy loss through tho breaking of telegraph wire insulators by pea-riflo bullets. -Mr. Bell said that he would look into the various matters brought before him, and would consult the officers of his Department.
