At the time of sustaining the accident, deceased was leading Semaphore out to do her preliminary for the opening event at Trentham, when she "played, up," and knocked him over, kicking l'rim nil tha head. Though dazed at the time lie was able to walk away, and, after tlio race, lie took liis mare home. Though his form at Trentham was not j very convincing, Mummer is to be a starter in the Winter Cup. Ho will bo shipped south next week. Latest lists issued show Phroso and Awahou as equal favourites for the Winter Cup. At the Ascot meeting in Melbourne on July 14, the New Zealand maro Merrygoer, by Merrie England—a Tramp mare, won the First Division Handicap of 70 snvs (five furlongs and a half), carrying list. 711)., and ridden by F. Yarr. The "Argus" thus refers to the race: —"Merrygoer, who scored so cleverly at Ascot last month, started in a similar event yesterday.
