HAIRDRESSERS' DEMANDS.

CONFERENCE PROBABLE. The recently-formed Wellington Hairdressers' Union have already served their claims on the employers. The union's claims provide for a sfl-liour week, 8.20 a.m. to G p.m. on four days j to 1 p.m. on the weekly half-holiday, and to 9 p.m. oil Saturdays. Employees shall liavo one hour for dinner between 12 noon and 2 tf.m. on five days ii\ the week, and an hour for tea between 5 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, No worker shall bo allowed to take a customer into his chair after five minutes beforo the closing hour, nor shall lie bo detained for moro than five minutes after tho closing time. Tho minimum wage for journeymen or journeywomcu shall bc-vC3 ss. per week. Tho following shall bo observed as full holidays: Now Year's Day, January 2, Anniversary Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Sovereign's Birthday, Heir-Ap-parent's Birthday, Labour Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and the annual Hairdressers' Picnic Day; tho observance of theso holidays not to interfere with the usual statutory half-holiday. No deduction to be inarto from tho weekly wage on account of holidays, and holidays falling on Sunday to bu observed on Monday. Employees shall receive, a sum of 3d. on all razors set, except those with-which they work. Journeymen shall bo those who liavo been at the trade for five years. Apprentices shall bo paid the following wages: First year, 10s. per week, rising by ss. increments to ,£1 ss. for fourth year, and £1 15s. for fifth yoar. Nono but members of tho Wellington Hairdressers' Union shall bo employed. : Casual labour shall bo paid at the rate of 15s. for Wednesday or Saturday, and 12s. Gd. for other days except the day of tho statutory half-holiday, when tho rate shall be 7s. Gd. Employers aro prohibited from providing board and lodging for ' employees other than members of their families or a youth from on orphans' home. Laundry expenses, when the employees tire obliged to wc4r uniforms, sliall bo borno by employers. It is proposed that the scope of the award bo within a radius of twelve miles from the G.P.0., Wellington. A conference of employers and representatives of tho union will probably bo held during tho week,
