ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
HENDERSON BURNING TRAGEDY. ' (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, July 19. At tho inquest into tlio death or Ellen Ahlgren, the victim of tlio Henderson burning sensation, John Ahlgren Tn _ his evidence stated that when ho, arrived homo he found his wifo on the floor burned to tlio waist. Ho asked her how it happened, and she replied, "It is some of your 'fancy woman's -doings." She was also questioned bv a oomstablo, and alleged that Mrs. Williamson wilfully set firo to' her clothing. Witness admitted that tlio two women sometimes quarrelled. ITo denied that ho had been unduly friendly with Mrs. Williamson. His wifo dranlc heavily." 1 Mrs. Williamson was not sober on the day of tlio tragedy. The inquest was adjourned.' A CABINETMAKER'S DEATH. Timaru, July 19. At tho adjourned inquest on Ernest T. Hill, cabinetmaker, aged 23, who died on Wednesday afternoon after what appeared to bo a fit in tho forenoon, tho medical evidence was to the effect that the postmortem was indecisive. The contents of the stomach will bo. analysed, also thoso of a small bottle found in tlio pocket. An ovordoso of clilorodyne is suggested as tho cause of death, this having possibly been taken for a cold. POISONED BY GAS. Auckland, July 18. A married woman, Carolino Lindsay, was found dead at Mount Eden by her daughter, the cause of dentil being gas poisoning. Tlio woman's hrod was bo* neath a rug under which was also tlio end of a tiihe connected with the gas jet, Sho had been suffering from tho effects of influenza. A MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE. Dunedin, July 18. A man named Samuel Weir, who was employed in the Roxburgh Amalgamated Sluicing Claim, disappeared mysteriously oil Wednesday night. His hat and coat were found nlongsido the Teviot River next morning. Marks were found indicating that Weir had gono into tho river, but footprints also led from tho river up to tlio road. For some days Weir had been rather strange and (ibsentminded. Tho river has been dragged without result.
