FRANCE'S NEW PROPERTY IN THE PACIFIC. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, July 17. The steamer Kulambangra brings details of the annexation of the Wallis Islands by France. It was previously a French protectorate. > When tho French gunboat Kerßaint arrived on Juno 9, the chiefs turned out to participate in tho annexation ceremony. The native militia paraded, and after a very effective march-past by tho latter tho chiefs formally handed over tho control of the islands to France. A salute of twenty-one guns was then fired. It is stated that a native Parliament will be elected.
