PLANT A TREE.
ARBOR DAY TO-DAY. To-dav is Arbor Day. Hitherto only spasmodic attempts havo been made to mark the occasion, and the results ot those attempts' havo been practically nil. Wellington's liills and valleys still present tlic same drab bareness as they did ten years ago. This year, however, many people have awakened to the opportunity which they havo of realising in Wellington the genuine "cits' beautiful," and an honest attempt is to be made to plant some of the waste places which everywhere hit the eye. To-day's programme is an ambitions one. Several of the schools have undertaken to plant suitable areas in or near their respective school-grounds and tho suburban municipal and lieautifying societies are co-operating heartily. Tlio Mayor (Mr. ,1. I'. Luke) is (o make a round of the various "planting spots" and will preside at the oflicml planting function, at Section 48 on the Town Belt at Kelburnc. His itinerary for the <lay will be as followsj Kilbirnie School, 9.15 a.m.! Roseneath, 1(1 a.m.; Section 48 (Kelburnc), 11 a.m.; Newtown School, 2 p.in.j Island Bay, 3 p.m.
