PAINTERS' AGREEMENT.
An agreement has been arrived at between the Wellington Painters' and Decorators' Union and the Master Painters' Association, which will take the place of the present agreement, which has almost expired. By tho new agreement painters receivo an increase of ljd. per hour, the rate to be Is. 4}d., in place of Is. 3d. Apprentices' wages are increased from Gs. Gd. to 10s. per week for the first year, with ss. rises in succeeding years. Overtime worked between 8 a.m. and 8 a.m. will be at the rate of time and a half, instead of time and a quarter, and the daily allowance for country work is increased from Is. a day to Is. Gd., or, if the job is only for a week, 3s. Ordinary rates of pay will be paid for time occupied in going to and from suburban work, whereas formerly payment was only allowed for time occupied in going to work. The term of the new award will probably be three years, and may be extended to include Otaki.
