The following members of tlio House of Representatives have been clected chairmen of the select committees indicated:— Mr. J. B. Hine (Public Accounts); Mr. H. J. H. Okey Classification); Mr. D. Buick (Railways); Mr. J. A. Young (Native Affairs); Mr. G. M. Thomson (Education); Mr. J. H. Bradnoy (Petitions A to L).

Mr. T. W. Kirk, head of the Orchards Department of tho Agricultural Department, and Mr. William Brown, of tho firm of Messrs. Laery and Co., will leave on a {dp to Rarotonga and Tahiti next week.

The Rev. J. Alex. Brown, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, U.S.A., is at present on a visit to New Zealand." He lias already visited tho thermal district, and is most enthusiastic about the wonders of Wairakci. Ho is now covering tho BullerOtira Gorge trip, and will afterwards go to the Cold Lakes.

Mr. Gilbert liyan, who has lj/jcn prominently associated with tlie : affairs of tho Wellington Boxing Association, and who was recently presented by that body with a gold medal, as evidence of tho esteem in which he has been held, leaves for Auckland to-day.

Mr. A. E. Armstrong and Mr. Mark Armstrong, of Messrs. T. Armstrong and Co., Ltd., Christchurch, were in town yesterday, and left Ly the Maori last evening.

Mr. A. W. Duukley, of tho reading staff of Tub Dominion, was farewclled by his friends in the literary staff of tho paper yesterday on the occasion of his departure to take up a positiou on tho reading staff of tho Christchurch "Press," and presented with a sot of reference books as a token of their good wishes for his cess in his new appointment.

Tho Mr. George Goldie, a, Sydney journalist, who was mentioned in yesterday's papers as having been appointed to organise tho Australian carnival in London, is believed to be Mr. Albert Goldie, some time of the Sydney "Sun" staff, who a few years ago niarriod Miss Dulcio Deamer, of Featlierstoii.
