TRADE RECIPROCITY.
FAVOURED BY FEDERAL MINISTER, Tlio following item of news from the Melbourne "Argus" is interesting in view of tho speculation that naturally exists here as to the possible effect the change ot Government jn Australia may have on tho fa to of the trade reciprocity agree' ment about which tho Minister for Cum toms in Now Zealand (tho Hon. p. M. B. iisher) recontly conferred with tho late Commonwealtli Minister for Customs:— When Mr. Tudbr was Minister for Customs, lie entered into arrangements with' Mr Lostcr, representing Canada, and Mr. l'isher, representing New Zealand, with a view to establishing reciprocal trade re lations between tho Dominions and tho Commonwealth. When it was know;n that tho Labour Government had been defeated, Mr. Tudor intimated in no uncertain way that ho would still do his best, al. though ho was in the Opposition, to m that the ideal was realised, so far as lay in his power. Questioned with reforonco to this matter, tho Primo Minister (Mr. Cook) said that his parly would do all that was possible to advance a reciprocal agreement on favourablo Lines. "Interempire trado is our ideal," 110 said. "Wo believe thero should lie as much prefer' ential trade as possible."
