HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of tho Hutt County Council was held yesterday) thoso present being:—Councillors W. Galloway (iu the chair), T. Edwards, J. Wakeham, M. W. Welch, J. Whiteman, and W. J. Howell.
The inspector (Mr. J. W. Cudby) reported that the extra work caused by -the flood-on-May " hud beeiV'CJirried-'flutj and' everythirig had been restored to good repair. The protection works at approaches to Victoria Bridge had been completed, and the fencing 1 was now in hand. The Judgeford-Moonshinb :l portion of the Paliautanui to Upper Hutt Road has been improved.
The Wellington Hospital aud Charitable Aid Board wrote stating that a case of scarlet fever in a house at Silversteam was being attended to. The following motion, moved by Councillor Welch and seconded by Councillor Howell, was carried:—"That an increase in wages of sixpence per day Ira granted to all roadmen in the employ of the council as from August 1." Councillor Howell moved, and Councillor Welch seconded, the following motion:—"That steps be taken to prohibit all tests of speed or reliability trials with motors of any description by any person on any roads under the jurisdiction Of the council, except by permission of the count!?." After scmo discussion, it 'was decided to ask the council's solicitors to frame a. by-law embodying the motion, and giving the council power to regulate the speed. ■ Other business discussed was of a formal nature.'
