(By Telegraph.—Spccial Correspondent.) Gisborne, July a. The Gisborne Racing Club's winter meeting concluded in fine weather, and before another big crowd. All totalisator records were broken, and the fields in the flat events were larger .than usual. Mummer again, scored for his owner, and Donzel also credited Mr. .I', Fitzpatrick with a steeplechase. - F. D. Jones rode four winners at the meeting, and B. Deeley three. Cally Bridge saw a short price in the Hurdles, for which the whole of the acceptors went to the post. At the start, Ix>ch Mabifl whipped round, with the result that ho gave tho field 50 yards' start. The favourite and Ambergris led for six furlongs, when the first-named went to tho front, and was liot again headed. Loch Mabin ran a great racc, but his handicap at the start spoilt his chances, and Jones had to .ride the winner right out to beat him from the last hurdle home. Both the winner and tho second horse are susceptible to a lot of improvement. The pair will be seen out at 'l'rentham. Scorch fell at the fence at the top of the course, but her rider was uninjured. ; Chortle and Shona May carried the bulk of the money in the Maiden Handicap, for which twelve runners lined up at the barrier. The start was a one, i but at the end.of two furlongs Chortle ani Soultie were clear of Shona May. The positions were not changed in tho run to the post, and Chortle won easily. The race .the ..first day did the big Multifid gelding good, while Shona May, who is small, could not begin well with her big weight. The Waikanae Handicap was the best race of the meeting, and at the finish the whole field was bunched. Mmniner was favourite, and won by half a length, but he wo 9 very lucky to score, although it must be. 6aid that he stuck to his task in the gamest manner possible. At the first turn there was a little crowding, Multiply and Montiform getting tho worst of it. Mummer and Theodore were in charge racing down the back, but the lastnamed was done at tho turn. The ; field then bunched, and in a pood finish Mummer won by a good neck from Multiply, who was stopped twice, but who fairly flew at the finish. Montiform also finished strongly, and beat Tragedy King tor third place. . There were only four runners in the open Steeplechase, and Hautero was backed down to a very short prioe. He led off at the start, but at tho first fence his rider broke his irons and had to ride the remainder of the journey without them. At the logs tho second time he Wt haTd and got rid of his rider. This left Napper Tandy in front, and he was not displaced. Lugcon fell at the back, when five furlongs from home, and Red M'Gregor foil at the last fence. R. Jury subsequently remounted Lugeon and a Maori Tode Red M'Gregor home. A great battle between the pair saw Lugoon win by a head, owing to superior horsemanship. J. O'Connell was badly Aaken and rendered unconscious, but he soon recovered. No bones were broken.

The Second Hack Handicap was also s. good race, and resulted in a fine finish. The machine showed that opinions were evenly divided, but Gazette, the -winner, was the absolute favourite, with Kielder next in demand. At ho start Gazette and Merlon led a bunched field. - At the turn Tatiiui, Kielder, Rising Sun, and Carburetter were most prominent of tho others, but in tho run to the post Gazette held his own and won by a bare length from the consistent hut unlucky Morton, Carburetter was third. This is a horse that more will be heard of. He is a chestnut gelding, by the imported Glenapp, hut at present he is very low in condition. , r~ The defection of Napper Tandy and Eiya left five runners in tine Hack Steeples. Stroller started a hot favourite. On going out to start, J. O'Connell, who had been hurt in tho previous steeplechase, .was loudly cheered by the crowd. Heyboy made the early running, but at the end of a mile, Donzel, had heen very sore, warmed up and took charge going down tho back. Jumping carefully, he won very easily from Hoyhoy. Stroller was a poor third. Reservoir fell.

' F. D. .Tones was given the mount on Roosevelt in the Final Handicap, and the public, observing that it wa? the fourth ■of July and remembering the previous evening's running, tr.adc the bay horse a warm order. He was in front all the way and won very comfortably. Montiform galloped very sourly, and was ridden with tine stick nearly the whola. way. He finished very fast, and cot up in time to beat Gazette for second place. REMINDER. Owners are reminded that acceptances for the first day's events af tho Wellington Racing Club's winter meeting are duo at 9 o'clock on Friday night. Entries for the Trial Plato aro due at the same time. M'Clinton's Soap softens and protects skin. Countess of Kintore writes: "M'Clinton's Soap leaves a feeling of velvety softness."—Advt. Mr. S.
