ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
BOYS AND FIREARMS. ONTi DANGEROUSLY SHOT. (Dy Telegraph.—Preji Association.] Auckland, July 4. A sensational shooting accidont occurred this morning at Herno Bay, when a boy named Lawrence Ivil was shot by' a playmate named Albert Bagnall. I'rom the particulars available, it appears that the two boys, botli about 13 years of age, went (io'vu* to Herno Bay bcacli together, taking with, them a small revolver and ono cartridge. The boy Bagnall was handling the revolver ready to lire, when young Ivil apparently got in tlio line of fire. The revolver went oif, and Ivil received the bullet in the abdomen. Dr. Hopo was summoned, and, after attending to tho wound, ho had the injured boy removed to a private hospital, where an operation was performed. Tho boy's condition is critical, and it will bo a day or two before any pronounoeincnt can be made as to the chances of recovery. The revolver .used was ono of very small bore, but the bullet was fired at close range, and entered at a dangerous part. FOUND IN THE MOLYNEAUX. • Dunedin, July 4. A body, believed to be that of William Bailey, was found in tho Molyneaux River at Invertail, near Balclutha. The circumstances point to suicide. Tho' deceased was a stranger to tho district, and was about 40 years of age. DEATHS AT TAURANGA. Tauranga, July 4. Mr. D. J. M'Ewen, of To Puke, aged 50 years, chairman of tho Tauranga ; County Council, and a member of the Harbour Board and other local bodies, died suddenly of heart failure. He was born at Puerua, near Clutha, and for some timo was teaching in Southland. For tho last fifteen years he has been farming at Ilelensville and To Puke. Mr. Samuel Spc-nce, aged 59, an old ■resident and a well-known farmer, also died suddenly of heart failure. ; FALL DOWN ASTAIRCASE. ; Auckland, July 4. William Stimpson, who was admitted to tho. Auckland Hospital on June 30, Buffering from injuries received as the result of a, fall down a staircase at the Shamrock. Hotel, died at tho hospital thia morning. Stimpson was a visitor from Taumarunui. On. June 27 he sustained tho fall mentioned, but seemed little the worse for it at the time. Ho afterwards took ill, however, and was removed to the hospital. MEN FALL FROM ROOF. Blenheim, July 4. . HugTn Scott and Esmond O'Neill, painters. fell from the roof of tho Commercial Hotel, Havelock, a distance of 30 feet. Scott, had his left arm and leg broken. O'Neill is' in a semi-conscious condition. He is badly bruised, and is suffering from sliock. BODY UNRECOGNISABLE. Christchurch, July 4. The body of an elderly man was found floating in Lyttelton Harbour this morning. It hod apparently been in the water for two or iihree weeks, and was unrecognisable. Tho suit bore a tag with tho name, "Williams, tailor, Waini." .
