(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, July 4. There is no improvement of note in the local grain market, and business still remains practically at a standstill beyond the usual hand-to-mouth trade. The potato market has cased <=till further, and buyers are now offering only £3 at country stations, though a little more might be paid if supplies are wanted immediately. Several _ sales have been made at the price mentioned, the lots 'being of fair size. Larcer growers are, however, st.ill holding firmly, and are generally nskinir £4, lfor potato«j to pit thoie is very llttlo Uaauta ttoflotthsra. msiate. ami.
merchants are, therefore, not anxious to purchase. There is more demand for seed varieties, and prices vary considerably according to the quality of the potatoes offered. The general range of vahios is £5 60. to £5 10s. for early varieties. £4, for Gamekeepers, and £2 lCs. to £3 for TJp-to-Dates and Northern Stars at country stations. The quantity of cowgrass offering is much larger than was anticipated earlier in the season, and this (coupled with the low quotations received for American-grown eecd) ; hos caused a considerable easing off in prices. Prime samples are now quoted at 7d. and Sd., and inferior at 6d. to 61d. per lb. LONDON WOOL SALES. Br Telesraah—Precs Association—Copyright ■ . London, July 3.
