ATHLETIC SPORTS.
RUGBY FOOTBALL. POSTPONED. The annual football match between teams representing the Public Trust Office and tlio Audit; Department, which should have taken place yesterday, was postponed on account of the inclement weather. ASSOCIATION. CHIEF CONTROL MEETS, A meeting of tho executive of the NewZealand Football Association was hold last evening,' Mr. C. E. Fordham presiding. Tho following delegates were in attendance:—Messrs. H. l'eomans (Marlborough), \V. J. H. Reynolds (Poverty Bay), C. Fordham (Otngo). A. Newbold (Auckland), J. F. Atkins (Wellington), J. Salmon (Southland), B. L. Salmon, secretary, and A. C. Kerr, assistant secretary and treasurer. On account of the secretary of tho late South Canterbury Association informing the council that there was no association in South Canterbury at present, it was decided that Otago and Canterbury be informed that the South Canterbury Association had been disqualified, and that no matches could therefore take place within that district. ' A challenge by Hawke's Bay for a Brown Shield match was received. It was decided that a special meeting of tho council be held at a future date to discuss Brown Shield challenges ' in general. . A letter was received from Auckland F.A. stating that there were 71G registered players ana 43 teams' under its jurisdiction. Included in the above total are the boys' Fifth and Sixth Division, who have 200 registered players. . Mr. 1.. White was elected chairman of the N.Z.F.A. for the ensuing season.

Petone, at Hutt Recreation Ground, at 3 p.m. (Mr. C. Murphy). Juniors: Petono B v. City, at Hutt Recreation Ground, at 3 p.m. (Mr. Wright). Petone C v. Athletic, at St. Patrick's Old Grounds, at Duppa Street, at 3 p.m. (Mr. Tregear). Newtown v. Petone A, at Quinn's Grounds, Lower nutt.'at 3 p.m. (Mr. Hay). Hutt,. a bye. TOURISTS AT CHRISTCHURCH. (By Telegraph—Prces Association.) Christchurch,' July 3. . Members of the New Zealand team of Rugby League footballers, who returned yesterday from their tour 'of New South Wales and Queensland, were accorded a reception this morning by the Canterbury Centre of the Now Zealand Rugby League. Mr. A. Hooper, president of the Canterbury Centre, presided, and. in addition to members of the team and its manager (Dr. Thacker) and s\ib-managcr (Mr. S. Brice), there were present a large number of local supporters of the League game.
LACROSSE.
TO-MORROWS MATCHES. At the Basin Reserve on Saturday afternoon the Proud Cup competition will be continued.' The principal attraction will' be the meeting-of Columbia and Kelburne, between whom there is a difference of only: one point, and as each team has defeated the other previously this season, some TOOil play and a close contest should be witnessed. Capitol will meet Wellington, and' should retain its leading place on the ladder, although Wellington is expected to make a creditable Showing against their more experienced opponents. Both matches will commence at 3 o'clock. Prior to the above fixtures, a junior grade match will be played, commencing at 2.15 p.m. Practical coaching and instruction will be given to beginners iby sehior players, 1 * and all intending play- 1 ers will be welcomed and (riven an opportunity of becoming acquainted with the rudiments of lacrosse, and of taking part in the-junior practice game/'

SPORTS' PROTECTION LEAGUE.
The Auckland branch of the New Zealand Sports Protection League is sending a deputation to the Board of Control at Wellington. There are said to be several important matters the branches desire to bring before the notice of the board. The deputation will consist of Messrs. E. W. Alison, J. Howe, G. W. S. Paterson, R. Wynyard, H. H. Hayr, C. X' 1 . Marlt, and H. It. H'Kenzie.
