THE MAORI'S BOW RUDDER.
GETS OUT OF HAND. (By TolozrnDh— Preoa Assoolation.) Christchurch, July 3. When off ICaikoura this morning, tint Maori's bow rudder started to swing, Ui3 crosshead having broken. Tho rudder swung across mid the steamer had to drive against it for the rest of tho voynge, ■ not arriving at Lyttcltou till 8 o'clock, and missing connection with th« first south express. [The local office of tho Union Company were advised yesterday morning that the Maori had broken the crosshead of her bow rudder. She was placcd in dock at Lyttelton yesterday for tho purpose of having repairs effected. In consequence of the mishap she was unablo to leave Lyttelhon for Wellington last evening. Tho Huddart-Parkcr steamer Ulimaroa. whs delayed at tho southern port until after the arrival of the second express from Dunedin. Tho Ulimaroa brought tho Maori's passengers and mails to Wellington this morning. Tho Maitai, which! was scheduled to leave Wellington for; Lyttelton at 5 p.m. to-day, has been' put' off till 8 p.m. She will tako the Maori's place in the ferry service from Wellington to Lyttellon this evening. It is expected that tho Maori will leave Lyttdlton' for Wellington as usual to-morrow evening.] .
