THE GREY SEAT,
MR. HANNAN AT'GREYMOUTH. (By Telegraph—Prees Association.) Greymouth, July 3. Mr. Jf. Hnnnan, who is contesting the Grey sent in the Liberal interest addressed the electors in the Opera House to-night.' The building was pocked. The candidate was Riven an excellent hearing and mailo a capital speech in defence of thp Liberal policy. At tho conclusion a number of questions were put and Sir. Hannan was given a vote of thanks and confidence. "LIBERAL", PRESS TACTICS. (By Telegraph.—Srccial Correspondent.) Hokitika, July 3. The Liberal organs in Greymouth have adopted a peculiarly unfair attitude over the Grey seat election. The "Grey River Argus" lias refused to publish any correspondence replying to criticism and attacks upou tho Reform Government and tho Reform party's candidate for tho Groy seat. This evening's "Greymouth livening Star," in two articles, attacks the Government and Jlr. Michel, the Government candidate, besides quoting outside Opposition journals, and, in the first paragraph under its leading articles, publishes this very interesting notice:
"During the last couple of days tho editor lias received numerous letters dealing with the present political contest, but, after mature consideration, has decided not to publish tho matter." l'eople are naturally concluding that tlie Opposition party lias a very weak case when the combined press of Grtiyniouth have to closo their columns against any criticism of their statements, and also declino to publish any defence of the Reform .candidate, upon whom they arc centring their attacks.
