His Excellency the Governor lias accepted the position of patron of the New Zealand Football Association. Sir Walter Buchanan was received with an enthusiastic demonstration of friendly feeling when lis entered the House of Representatives last night. It was the first appearance of the veteran Parliamentarian in the House since his return from a visit to England and Canada. Tliere was a spontaneous outburst of applauso and cheers as he was seen making for his place, and he had a good deal of handshaking to do before ho got there, The Prime Minister rose in his place, as did all the Government, members, and a few on tho other side of the House, and led a round of hearty clieers. Tho Hon. D. Buddo, who was on his feet, spoke a few words of welcome and congratulation. Mr, Alexander M. Stewart, who Juas recently arrived in Wellington from Scotland. has been appointed- to take charge of the- Pre-sbyterinn Church at Eastbournfe, and will conduct his inaugural service on Sunday next. Mr. Stewart is to bo welcomed to his cliargo by members of his new congregation at a concert, which is to be given in tho c'hiurch at Eona Bay to-morroiv evening. Mr. Norman R. Chapman lias been appointed organist and choirmaster at tho Terrace Congregational Church. Mr. Sydney Stirling, Mr. Arthur Styan, and Mr. H. R. Roberts, of the Haniilton-Pliiunier Comedy Co., are staying at tho Albert Hotel. Mr. E. C. Adams, chief passengers clork in the Union Company's local office, left Wellington by tho Maunganui for Melbourne on holiday leave yesterday. The death is reported of Mr. A. W. Jewell, of Groytown, who passed away rather suddenly on Wednesday. Mr. Jowell was about fifty years of age, and came to the Dominion some forty years ago. He lived most of tho time in tho Wairarapa. Mr. A. E. Glover, M.P., arrived' in Wellington on Wednesday evening. Ho Ivas quite reoovered from his recent illness. , The appointment of Mr. Georges A. Streiff as Swiss Consul in Auckland is gazetted. v
