EXPRESS AND GOODS TRAIN.
— 0 MYSTERY SURROUNDING RAILWAY COLLISION. By Teleeraph—Press Association—Oopyricht Sydney, June 30. Further details of the narrowly-averted railway disaster to the Sydney-Melbourne express at Rock station, when tho express mysteriously deflected on., to a loop line, crashed into a stationary goods trajn, show that the stationary train consisted of thirty empty trucks. The' speed of the express had been greatly reduced by the brakes, otherwise the impact would have been heavier. The Tesult was, however, serious, all the trucks being damaged. Tho driver of the express stuck to has post, and tho fireman jumped off after putting on thd brakes. There is a conflict of evidence regarding the signals. It is supposed that some thing went wrong with the interlocking gear. The line had apparently been set "Clear" when it was not.
