HARBOUR BOARD & PATENT SLIP CO. 1 Regarding the two deputations which waited on the Harbour Board at its last meeting, tho one to urge on the board the need, and the other the Heedlessness, of a second slip ior small vessols in Wellington, 'Mr. Harold' Beauclianip . (speaking on behalf of tho A\ ellington Patent Sip Company) admitted certain liability under a provision set out in the fifth schedule to tho Wellington Harbour Board Empowering Act, 1!)0S, to erect a second slip- It is under this clause that action is now beiiifir taken by sninll shipowners, and those concerned in the, repairing of ships. The clause referred to in the fit'th si'hedulo to • the Act is as follows:— o , "8. Tho company may at any time, ana shall, if required by the board after the first four years of the said period of twenty-five years, erect and equip a second and smaller slip upon the said lands for tho special. convenieuco of tho smaller vessels. This second slip shall bo erected and constructed in such manner as shall bo agreed upon between tho board and tho company, and shall bo deemed an improvement of tho said lands within the meaning of Clause five (5) hereof." . Clause 5, it should be explained, provides for the payment by the board for buildings and improvements effected with the consent of tho board, when tho latter body, aftor 25 years, takes over tho whole of the Patent Slip Company's property. The power given to the board under the above clause was not to bo exerted until after the first four years. That torm expired last year, tho deed incorporating tho, Fifth Schedule having been mado oil July 21, 1908.
