QUALIFICATIONS FOR REGI&TRA- ' TION.
Authorised by resolution of tho Plumbers' Board of-Now Zealand adopted at the third and concluding sitting of its first in eating on Thursday last, tho chairman (Dr Frengley, dopufcv clncf health olhcer) furnishes the following epitome of such of tie proceedings as aro matters of public interest:— . • . Initially, tho board consdered in what districts, in accordance with tho provisions of \tho Act, it was desirable that after six months from tho gazetting of regulations All sanitary plumbing shall be done by registered plumbers. The boßrd decided upon, as a basis, all districts whsre, prior to April 1 last, plumbers' licenses wore issued. To theso distriots were added others neighbouring thereon, or where tho circumstances seemed to the lward to reasonably justify tho step implied bv tho regulation, a- draft of which is now being prepared. To simplify tho proceedings of tho board in dealing with registration, and tho better to inform applicants therefor what exactly was required of them, a form of application was decided upon, Alio printing of which is now in progress. JVhp ready, the forms will bo iiifluo AV(\il*iulc to opplicants on request, and through tho M.ister Plumbers' and Journeymen Plumbers Federations and local authorities. Stops will be tafcen for tho indention of noticcs in the newspapers in the principal centres regarding applications for registration as soon as matters aro a little moro forward. Tho minimum examination qualification allowed by tiro Act. is the plumbers' examination in Grade it of 1.10 City nnd fiuilds of London Institute. The board will approve this examination ill tho first inul.uico. but six months after the gazetting of tho regulations the minimum standard shall bp raised to that to bo prescribed by regulations for- the board's own examination. Higher examinations than Grade II will, of course, bo accepted, and, generally, other examination certificates as they come in will bo judged on their merits in comparison with the minimum standard referred to. The hoard has considered the encv of requiring that registered plumbers shall notify tho board of nnv change in postal address within fourteen days, and also ths need, for tho granting of provisional certificates. The board has taken steps to obtain direct information regarding tho standard of tho plumbing examinations hold in Sydney and Melbourne.
