AN AERO MYSTERY.
AVIATOR'S MIRACULOUS ESCAPE. 13y Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, June '24. In connection with the accident reported yesterday to an aviator named Fairbairns, AYlio when testing a new type of machine for Transatlantic flights, sank with his machine in the sea, while a friend was endeavouring to open the conning tower and extricate him,- it is stated that I'airbaims rcoched tho surface of tho • water, and his air-jacket kopt him afloat until lie became conscious. He then swam ashore, a distance of two miles. Fairbairns' story is considered to be mysterious. The Brooklands authorities were unaware of Fairbairns' flight. He is absolutely unknown there. Nothing was seen of the flight, either- at Sheerness or tho Nore. Fairbairns' father had not heard of his son's whereabouts for a week. Fairbairns maintained a reticence about the details of his aeroplane,. His present whereabouts are not known. IS IT A HOAX? I (Rec. June 25, 10.35 p.m.) London, June 25. No confirmation of the Fairbairn aero flight is forthcoming. The news agency regrets circulating the report of the alleged flight, which was telegraphed by one of Fairbairn's friends.
