'At tho trial of Thomas Edward Brown, an orohardist, for the murdor on - May 1 last of Sergeant Edwin Hickey, the arresting constables gave evidence that after his surrender Brown admitted shooting Hiokey; but said that he had to do it in self-defence. Brown, in the course of a statement, had declared that in the struggle Hickey grabbed Brown's revolver, and fired, but missed. Later, in trying to prevent Hickey, from again shooting, the revolver went off, and Hickey was shot.
