NORTHLAND AFFAIRS.

ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL REPORT.. Tho following is tho report of tho Northland Municipal Association. It is to be submitted to the annual meeting on Friday "The'most important matter dealt with during tho year was that concerning the accrued tramway profits from the Botanical Gardens-Johnston Street section. These profits' were retained by the Knrori Council in their district fund account, but this association considered that they should be used, cither to decrease tho rates on tramway and tunnel loans or be placed to the credit of the sinking fund for these loans. A deputation from the association waited on the Karori Borough Council to discuss this, and other matters, but did not meet with any success, so it was decided to obtain a legal opinion on the matter from Mr. T. F. Martin. As Mr. Martin's opinion was favourable to the association, the Karori Borough Council was again approached, with the result that the sum of .£2500 was placed on deposit at i per cent., and tho interest derived is to go towards liquidating the sinking fund of the above-men-tioned loans. Tho state of the footpath on Karori Road, from the Botanical Gardens to Karori tunnel, was brought under the notice of the City Council, with tho result that a portion was kerbed and asphalted some months ago, and tho remainder is now well under way. At the request of tho association, the City Council has placed seats alongside Orungi-Kaupapa Road, additional lights in Orangi Road and ICaupapa Road, and a drinking-trough for liorses, with connection to city mains, on the town side of Karori tunnel. An additional man to assist the Northland roadman was asked for, and t'lio City Council now has tho matter under consideration. The association desires to place on record the .services rendered by its late treasurer, Mr. C. Anderson. Mr. Anderson was connected with the association since its inception, and his untimely demise is universally regretted."
