FATAL AFFAIR. ENTANGLED IN THE REINS. . (By Telegraph.—Prtss Association.) Taihapo, Juno 10. An accidcnt, which terminated fatally, occurred at Mataroa lato on - Saturday afternoon. Harold Nielsen, aged 50, a single man, was employed in removing a load of furniture. Ho jumped 011 tho cart, and tho horse started suddenly. Nielsen lost his balanco and fell, becoming entangled in the reins. Ho was dragged somo distanco, nnd a wheel went over his head. Nielsen was brought into Taihapo Hospital, but succumbed last night. BUMPED ON HEAD AT RUGBY.

FATAL RESULT. Christchurch, June 16. Samuel Plimsoll, aged 19, died last evening as tho result of injuries received while playing football. Ho was a member of tho Christchurch Club's third grade team which played the Boys'-High School on Saturday. Ho apparently got bumped on tho head, but did not slop playing. He was unconscious yesterday morning, and died later in tho hospital from concitbsion. At an inquest held this afternoon, Patrick Leo Madden, captain of the Christchurch President's B team, said that, at tho time of the accident, .deceased was playing in tho forwards. There was no rough play at all. In the first spell witness went to collar one of the High School team, and deceased collared him at the samo time. Witness Teceived a slight impact on tho side of his head from deceased's head. It dazed witness for the moment Decased lay down for four or five seconds, and seemed to be in pain, but got up; and tho gamo resumed. Deceased played all through the second spell. Francis L. Scott, medical superintendent of tho hospital, diagnosed the caso as probably cerebral haemorrhage, but he was unable to 6tate the causo of death, beyond tho fact that there was increased intra-cranial tension., Tho coroner recorded a verdict that deceased died through tho result of injuries received while playing in a football match on Saturday.

SERIOUS CYCLING MISHAP. Wanflanul. Juno 10. . A distressing accident took place at Gonville this afternoon. A man', named Reginald Connon was found unconscious on the road with a broken bicycle besidn him. He had evidently been knocked down by a. passing vehicle. At the hospital he was found to have sustained a large scalp wound, a broken jaw-bone, and a broken bono in the shoulder. Ho has not yet recovered consciousness, so has given no account of how the accident occurred. He is the solo support of a widowed mother.

BOY'S FINGER AMPUTATED. ■ Wanganui, June IG. While the school children wero disembarking from the Tutanekai, which tendered the battle-cruiser to-day, a boy named Rodney Burnett, aged 8 years, got his left-hand jammed between tho vessel and the wharf, with tho result that a finger had to be amputated. CLOTHES CAUGHT FIRE. Christchurch, Juno 14. An inquest was held this afternoon on tile body of Jane Vcitch, aged.64, who died at tho hospital on Sunday as the result of injuries arising from bums. Francis L, Scott, medical superintendent of {he hospital, said that deceased was admitted to tho institution suffering from burns on her head, chest, and arms. She was also suffering from severo shock, from which she did not rally. Thomas Vcitch said that he lived with his wifo at 24 Manchester Street. On Sunday Tio arose, nnd got his breakfast. Deceased was sitting by tho fire, and witness, after , giving her. breakfast, went back to bed. After a short sleep he woke up to find smoke coming, into tho bedroom. Ho rushed into, the kitchon, and found his wife enveloped in flames lj-ing on the floor close to where ho had left her. She culled out, "Tom, give me a drink of cold water." ' Witness could not account for her catching fire. She was not subject to fits. The coroner: I don't understand this at all. You went to bed and had a sleep, and then found her lying in ilamc3 on the floor. Why did she not call out to you? ' Witness: I never heard any sound. Coroner: Did you have any drink in the room ? Witness: She had a little whisky that morning. Coroner: I thought so. In reply to further questions by the coroner, witness said that 110 had had no whisky. Deceased appeared sober when he went to bed. There was about a half-jug of whisky in the .place that morning. Deceased was not in the habit of drinking, but took a little now and S The coroner recorded a verdict ttiat deceased died from burns accidentally received, but in what way there was no evidence to show.

OLD MAN FOUND DEAD. Auckland, June 10. Yesterday morning tho body of an old resident of Pukekohe, Robert Lntimer, was discovered at his homo on Pukckoho Hill by some visitors to tho house. Sir. Latimer was a bachelor, and l>y himself, ne was last seen m Pukokolio oarlv in tho week, and when tho body was discovered yesterday it was evadent that death had taken place a day or two previously. Deoeased was found iving on tlTfloor alongside lins bed. As deceased had been undergoing modioal treatment, an inquest was not considered necessaij. Latimer was a man of moans, and liad lived in the district for about forty years. JIGGER STRUCK BY TRAIN. Hamilton, June 10.
