NELSON.
Tho annual meeting of tho Nelson Bowling Club was held on Wednesday evening, and was largely attended. The president, Mr. W. Houlker, was in tho chair. The report stated that quite a number of new members had been added to the club's roll, but owing to many members having left tho district, tho'total had not materially altered. Entries for the various competitions had been good. Upon tho motion of Mr. Houlker, Mr. G. Hogg was elected president, and tho other offices wero iilled as under:—Vice-president, Sir. T. A. H. Field; secretary, Mr. 11. W. Stiles (re-elected); treasurer, Mr. D. Watt (re-elected); auditors, Messrs. W. Moves and G. Clutten;' committee, Messrs. H. Baigont, E. S. Cresswell, W. Rout, A. Crawford, W. Houlker, J. G. Littlejohn, T. Haldane. Tho club is taking steps to form a bowling centro under the new scheme, tho area being from WestportReefton to Blenheim. An accident occurred in the Maitai Valley tho other day, whereby Mr. J. Brewerton lost two valuable draught horses through a wagon and four horses going over a bank and falling 50 or GO feet into tho river. The driver had a miraculous escape, and got off with a few bruises. The accident occurred just abovo Smith's, and Mr. Georgo Smith, hearing tho smash, ran to the scene, and plunging into tho river, released tho two leaders, whoso lives were saved. Tho other two horses wero drowned.
