THE GUNSHOT WOUND. (By Telegraph— Press Association.) Auckland, Jnne 12. Lachlnn Speekley was found dead at the back door of his houfo at Howick with a gunshot wound in the forehead. Beside the body was a double-barrcllecl shot-gnu. Deceased was 47 years of age, in comtoi'table circumstances, and good • , was suggested at the inquest lie tripped, causing the accidental discharge of tlio guu. SHOCKING EVENT. . POSTAL EMPLOYEE'S DEATH. Timaru, Juno ,12. Vivian Coira, 21 years of age, a postal employee at Teinuka, riding a motor t\\c.o with a side-car in which was a. mail named E. liorgan, was crossing the railway at Teinuka, when the first nortugoin" express caught them, and struck tlio hind wheel of the cycle. Both cyclists were thrown a long way along the line. Horgan scrambled o»t of the way with a bruised knee, but Coira had both legs broken,-his skull fractured, and nearly everv bone in his body fractured. He was against a cattle-stop post, and died on the way to'the hospital. Deceased was a very popular young .man, and was a son of Peter Coira (long well-known as. a hotelkeeper). His-death caused a/great shock in Temuka'. TIMBER FALLS 0>" CHILD. Christchurch, June 12. Annie Chapman, four years and a half, died as the result of injuries received at her parents' residence in Sydenham I this afternoon. Some timber tell on tho child, and she expired before a doctor arrived.
KILLED BY A BUSH ENGINE. Auckland, June 12. The police have received information tonight from Kare Kare, on the west coast, stating that a man named larrelly had been killed by a bush engine. No details are available.
TRAM AND DRAY COLLIDE.
Auckland, June 12. A tram accident occurred on the Ponsonbv lino at about 10.15 to-night. A car ran into a dray carryins.it along the lino for =:onio distance and pinning it against a pole. Tho dray was smashed to pieces and the front of the car was considerably dsmaged. Tho driver of tlis dray. Hugn Brenmer, 50 years of 'age, received a broken shoulder-blade. He was convoyed to the hospital in an unconscious condition. Motorman Christinas received a slight injurv to one of his legs, but was able to drive the car to tho barn. Iho prssengers were shaken.
