ASHBURTON TROTTING CLUB. ? WINTER MEETING. (By Telegraph.—Preta Association.) Ashburton, June 12. TIIO Ashburton Trotting Club's Winter meeting was held to-day under ideal weather conditions. TIIO course, though a triilo holding, was in good order, and the going was excellent for the first few races, after which greasier conditions pre-, vnjled.' The entries constituted a record, 28 horses accepting for 0110 raco and 2i starting, while the average number of entries in each of the seven events was twenty. The attendance was very large, and the totalisator receipts aggregated £10,100, as against .£7032 at the last Winter meeting, and i 11,030 in June, 1911, when the club's last two days' meeting took place. The results are as under:— TRIAL. HANDICAP (harness), .of 50 sovs. One milo and a half.—Caledon, lOsec., 1; Professor, lOsec., 2; Rural, 12sec., 3. Scratched: First Bell. Won by three lengths, with half a length dividing Professor and Rural. Time, 3min. 59 2-ssec. LONGBEACH HANDICAP (optional), of 125 sovs. Two miles.—Truganini, llsec., 1; Mandor, 22sec., 2; Bow Bells, 3sec., 3. Scratched: Provocation, Ella Princess, Greendale. Won easily by three lengths, Bow Bells bsing double that distance behind Mandor. Time, smin. 9sec. Won by three lengths. Time, 2min. 2Gsec. ACTON HANDICAP (saddle), of 100 sovs. One mile and a half.—Clingschild, Ssec., .1; Elie do Beaumont, Csec., 2; Hazeliield, 12sec., 3. Scratched: March Hare, Minora, Espinal. Clingschild got to the front at the half-way stage, and lasted long enough to get homo with a length to the good. Hazeliield was three lengths nwnv. Time. 3min. dOsec. WINTO3R." HANDICAP (harness).. of 150 sovs. One mile and a quarter.—Little Arthur, lOsee., 1; Bell Metal, 7sec., 2; Ripon Child, lOsec., 3. Scratched: Mandarine, May Dillon. This was the race of tho day. and one of the best ever run on tho Ashburton course. Little Arthur shot out when well into tho straight, and won by a length and a half, Bell Metal finishing fast on the outside, two lengths in front of the third horse. Time, 2min. 5G -l-ssec.
