RUNAWAY AT PETONE. DOUBLE ACCIDENT. On Wednesday afternoon, Mrs. Evenson met with' an accident whilst out riding at Waiwetu. Her horso took fright at the bottom of Waterloo Bond and set off at a hand-gallop down Main Hutfc Road to Petone. When turning into Jackson Street tho lady was thrown to the ground. She was pickcd up in an unconscious state. Dr. Harding, wlio attended, found that Mrs. Evenson was cut about-the face, and bruised, and in u state of collapse. Another incident about the affair js that a mounted Territorial, seeing the other runaway, gave chase, but he came to grief at another corner, and was pickcd up in a worse state than the lady.

Five months ago, Robert Apps, then an inmate of the Whangarei Old Men's Home, wandered away from tho institution, and though search was made in various directions, no trace' of the missing man was f(>un<l. STRUCK BY- KAPOC BALE. Whilst standing near tho vehicle entrance to Messrs. Macky, Logan, Caldwell and Co.'s premises yesterday, Ivy Huglios was struck l),v a bale of kapoc, which fell from a cart. No serious injury was sustained. SUDDEN DEATH. Hastings, June i. Thomas Groome, aged about 45, eldest son of Mr. E. Groome, a well-known sheepfarmer of Teonepu, dropped dead this morning. Deceased had been attended for heait trouble. TOSSED BY A' BULL.' Hamilton, June 4. William Campbell, an elderly man, and a resident of Invercargill, was tossed by a bull while visiting tho Ruakura State Farm to-day. He' was rendered unconscious. Fortunately the animal had been partlv' dehorned, otherwise tho results would have been serious.
