MONTESSORI METHOD.

FURTHER REMARKS BY HON. J. ALLEN. (Br Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Auckland, J\mo 4. In his capacity as Minister for Education, the Hon. James Alien found time during his travels abroad to inquire into various educational matters. On his way to London Its investigated tlio primary education system adopted by the Montessori School in Rome, and also a special secondary system in operation in Switzerland. Ho also visited some of the schools for the feeble-minded in England. Ho has brought back with him a great deal of information and literature on wirious subjects, and will place them before the Education Department. Mr. Allen rcfcrr-cd in the course of a few remarks at the civic reception yesterday to the Montessori system. lie explained, however, that it would appear that New Zealand need not go so far as Italy to gain information concerning educational matters, as ho had been told that the New South Wales system was oven better than the world-famed Italian method. He had been fortunate enough to meet an Australian, woman who had been specially detailed to investigate the Montessori educational system, and from her ho had gleaned many useful pieces of information. Ho hoped that New Zealand teachers might in the future have this opportunity of investigating tlio New South Wales system for themselves.
