NOTES ON THE RACING. When the barrier went up for tho Maiden race, Rosalys was tho first to show in front, but Kew soon ran into second place. Tho favourite allowed Rosalys to show him tho way round the turn, "but then ran to tho front, and won in the easiest of canters. Sir Donald, Pukerua, Victoris, and Cadonia finished in the order nameii. Courtley and Aratiatia, who were on the rails, were quickest to begin in the Flying Hack Race, but Red Line soon ran into a prominent position, and, getting up on the fenco at the turn, he won very comfortably. Yankee Doodle finished fast in second place, and Ladoga, who was cut out at the barrier-rise, also finished well in fourth place. Sea Queen was better backed than Nyland in the Hack Hurdles, and tho pair cleared out from the field. Nyland jumped all but one fence in perfect style, while Sea Queen got into the straight first. Tho last fence was down, bo over tho last half-mile it was a flat race. Sea Queen led into the straight, but her rider took matters too easily, and in the run homo Nyland cam© again, and beat her on the post. Aborbrothock was a poor third. The Cup was tho best Tace of the day. At the outset Peroneal forced the pace, but Toney and Tiwari joined her passing the stand, and Undecided led the next bunch. At the six furlongs Tiwari got chopped back, and a couple of furlongs further on Peroneal had a similar experience. Toney led from Mtilga Bill round tho bottom bend, but then jroutoa Girl rushed into the lead, and won pulling up by ten lengths. Undecided was clear of Toney, and then came Tiwari, Byron, Peroneal, and Vi, with Sir Knox last. Settler was a good favourite in tho mile hack race, but after showing up well for five furlongs he dropped out of it. Lord ICilclieran and Parklnll led into tho straight, but then Dirge came'along with a rush, and won very comfortably by four lengths. Hurakia came from behind and teat Parkhill'for second place, and then canie Rangikapua, Papamarama, and Settlor.

Altcar was at tho head of affairs on tho machine for the open sprint event. There was a lonp delay at the barrier, and when it was skied Makara and Altcav were the first to become prominent, with Blue Lake and Te ICahurangi at the head of tho others. The positions were unchanged until well inside the distanec, vrlien Altcar tired, , and Makara, finishing well, beat him by a length. Lady Volga was clear of tho others. The next to finish wero Sanguinary, Blue Lake, Mon Ami, and Inenru. i Ivaniki was the best backed in the Hack Welter, with the Porirua gelding Parky as second choice. At the start'the favourite was on the extreme outside, but ha jumped out smartly, and led with Otama fiom Grandee, Huia, Artificial, Astonishment, and Parky. Down the lack tho last-named moved up on the inside aiid Huia also improved his position. As they raced into the straight Kaniki and 'Otama were locked together, with Astonishment next, and Parky coming fast. The lastnamed joined the leaders at tho distance, and, after a good finish, beat Otama by a head. ■' -
