GIRLS IN FLAMES.
PAINFUL SCENE IN CHURCH,
London, May 2G. There was a painful eceno during the celebration of Hififh Mass at tho French Church in Leicester Square, London, yesterday morning. In the middle of tho service a young girl, dressed i» white, commenced to rush along the gallery, and in a moment it 11 as seen that her clothing was on fire. Two other girls a-an to her assistance, and this flames spread to' their dresses, too, and the threfc-rushed down and across the floor of tho church, causing a panio among the worshippers/many of whom were trodden down in the excitement, while many mow fainted. Ever+body hurried out of the church, wliilo the organist played a solemn voluntary, and die officiating,priest pronounced the "Dominus Vobiscum,' the choir nlono responding. When the panio was ov!er the congregation returned to find that nono of the girls woro injured badly, and the service was completed. M It transpired that the child s long veil camte in contact "with the flames of a ga9 stove.—Sydney "Sun."
