THE KING'S BIRTHDAY.
CLOSE PUBLIC HOLIDAY.. The King's Birthday, which occurs on Tuesday next, will be a close holiday. Die Factories' Act enjoins that no females or youths under 18 years of age shall be employed on that day, and in addition most of "tho trade awards mark the Kings Birthday as a compulsory holiday. the Shops and Offices Act is not so definite, but it stipulates a weekly half-holiday, that is, as a rule, observed on the holiday, so as to "make a day of it. that will bo the caso on Tuesday next, the law and insurance offices, and the. banks will close for the day, and the warehouses aro to hiep holiday. .... Tho only holidays that aro subject to "Mondayising" are Dominion Day and Labour Day. The King's Birthday, when it falls on'a Sunday, is by statute to «' observed on tho Monday, and not othorSomo peopte who observe tho mid-weelc half-holiday state that they are hardly satisfied with having to throw their haltdav into any public holiday that happens. It'has been pointed out that whilst this is tho case with Wednesday half-holiday observers, those who got their half-holiday on the Saturday aro not so' penalised, as invariably they rat. the full holiday in addition to tho half-day. PARADING TROOPS. Tho troops of tho Wellington Garrison will be reviewed at Newtown Farlf by tho Officer Commanding the District (Colonel E. W. C. Chaytor) on Tuesday forenoon. Colonel G. F. C. Campbell will command the troops, which will consist of six battalions—two battalions of adult troops and four battalions of senior cadets. D. Battery will be posted on the hill overlooking the park, and will fire a Koyal N saluto of 21 guns. The proceedings will at 9 o'clock, at which time the troops will arrive at the park and take up their positions prior to the formal inspection, after which the following order of events will bo obsencd: —Royal salute, review of brigado in line of quarter column, march past in column, march past in quarter column, advance in reviow order. Members of the "Reserve of Officers and all veterans are invited to be present at tho parade. They will take up a position at the "saluting base" by 9.15 a.m. ' In case it is found necessary to cancel tho parade owing to inclement weather, the signal will bo: Koyal salute fired by tho Ti.N.Z.A. at 7 30 a.m.; red flag under the Union .Tacit will l>e flown on flagstaff at Headquarters, Mount Cook Barracks; red flag will also be hoisted on flagstaff on G.P.O. at S a.m.
