A BOXING INQUIRY.

HEGARTY-BROMWICH MATCH. (Br TolesTapii.—Special Correspondent.) Hastings, May 2G. Tho unsatisfactory termination to the Hegarty-Bromwich boxing contest last week was tho cause of nil oxhanstivo inquiry on the part of the Hawke's Bay Boxing Association. After several meetings had been hold, the following resolution was carried: —"After careful and zealous inquiry, including the evidence of tlireo doctors, tho principals (Hegarty and Brcmwich). their trainers (Lamont and Malady), tho referee (Mr. Sampson), and others, tho committee is of opinion that while the referee was justified at tho moment in giving the decision ho did, there is not sufficient material in the evidence for the committee to hold that there was any deceit or malpractice attributable to either of tho contestants. The committee is further of opinion that although there may havo been suspicious circumstances in the unexpected termination of the contest, the failure of Bromwich to give tho exhibition of boxing that was expected of him was, according to the medical evidence, probably duo to, indisposition." The stakes of tho recent fight will bo apportioned satisfactorily to both Hegarty and Bromwich. Bromwich is still staving in Hastings, and # far from well. He states that up .to the time of the contest he was in normal health, but that an attack of illness must have oomo over him as he entered the ring, for ho has no recollection of the happenings between that time and eleven o'clock tho same night. ,
