BOXER FALLS DEAD IN THE RING.

LUTHER II'CAETY'S END. By Telegraph.—Press Association—Copyright (Eeo. May 25, 5.5 p.m.) Ottawa, May 21. In a. ten-round bout at Calgary, Arthur Felkey hit Luther M'Carty over the heart, and. M'Carty fell dead. HUNDEEDS AEEESTED.' (Reo. May 26,' 0.15 a.m.) Ottawa, May 25. The mounted police arrested hundreds at Calgary after the death of M'Caity, including fight promoters.

[Luther M'Carty was for some time a prominent figure in the regiment of "white hopes" who were pressing their claims to contest tho boxing supremacy of the world with the champion Johnson. Since ' Johnson's downfall in popular esteem, due to his encounters with the law for social offences, none of the foremost white boxers have shown any desire for si match with. him, and an efi'ort was made to institute a new "world's championship" confined to the white Tace. This effort has not been taken over-seri-onsly, but Luther M'Carty, who had defeated other claimants to 'front rank distinction, such as Carl Morris, A 1 Kaufman, Jim Elynn, and A 1 Palzer, adopted the title, of "white champion of the world," and apparently was quite as much entitled to it as anyone else. He was a giant in stature, and had demonstrated, not only that he was .capable of giving, severe punishment, but of taking it as well. Ho was to have met the exchampion Tommy Burns on Saturday last, and tho match had been looked forward to with a great deal of interest on account of tho fact that it would not only afford opportunity of trsting whether Burns had retained his old form, but also would give a more reliablo test than had yet been given of M'Carty's capabilities against a skilled and experienced boxer. For some reason Arthur Pelkey anpoars to have been substituted for Bnrns. Pelkey is a strong, vigorous fighter, another of the "white hope" brigade, and has been spoken of as showing much promise, although he was badlv beaten by Burns in a six-round no-decision bont in March last.]
