INVERCARGILL FARMERS' UNION.
PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph.—Prei?3 Association.) lnvercargill, May 23. At the annual -Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union of Southland Distact held to-day, the following resolutions were passed:—(l) Urging the Government lo remove the extra charge on importeu timber and to eiicourngo the importation of timber so that the existing forests would bo somewhat conserved. (2) Opposing the imposition of "ta" l ® o ™ vehicles by local bodies. (3) lhat mortgagees' security on property should not be liablo under the Workers' Compensation Act. 14) Urging tho Government to press forward the immigration of farm labourers and domestics and to encourage the central unemployed body in London to send out contingents of boys and other suitable labour. (5) Asking tho Government to establish an experiment farm or agricultural college in Southland. A remit in favour of affiliating with the Employers' Federation was referred back to the executive. s
