LARGE SUM INVOLVED. ] By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, May 22 Arthur Newton, the well-known solicitor, 'and Berkley Bennett, an undischarg-' ed bankrupt, of Half-moon Street, charged with frauding Hans Thorsch of .£23,000, have been committed for trial. Newton is being further charged with misappropriating tho sum of .£3OO in connection with "the fine of XSOO imposed in January last on Roy Mackay, who with others, was convicted for keeping a gambling house in Belgrave Square. [At the hearing of the case in the Police Court in March last, the defence declared that tho prosecution arose out of a civil judgment, and that tho prosecutor had offered a compromise. Thorsch, in evidence, said that he was induced to invest .£14,500 in Manchurian Concessions, Ltd., and had not received any return. Later, New toil anu others had persuaded him 'to invest .£16,000 in alleged Canadian land and timber concessions.]
