"William Barton, tho gamekeeper, arTosted on May 5, on suspicion of having murdered -Winifred Mitchell, a farm servant at Gussage Wimborno, Dorsetshire, has been committed , for trial. Letters found among the girl's effects were in Barton's handwriting, and were couched in affectionate language. , A witness, stated that Barton had admitted that he intended to elope with the girl to Canada. l TWinifred Mitchell's body was found buried in a shallow grave. Some boys had seen an open grave on March 30, and on the following day tho girl Mitchell disaDoeared, saying she was going to Canada No search for her was made until her false teeth were found in a wood a fortnight later. A search then ™vealed the grave, filled in, and in it the'body of jfitchell, fully dressed. She had been shot in tho liead. The accused Barton is a married man.]
