AUCKLAND TRAMWAYMEN.
NEW AGREEJD3NT PROBABLE. (By Telegraph— Special Correspondent.! Auckland, Slay 22. Three conferences were held somo weeks ago between representatives of the Auckland Electric Tramways Company and of its employees, upon tho Jatter's proposals for a new agreement in substitution' for tine one made about two and a half years ago. Tho first discussion of tho subject took place in December, and subsequently two conferences were held, tho second in March, but tho Ixtsis for nn agreement submitted to the union was rejected, tho members maintaining their claims for increased wages and improved conditions.
It is understood that eino} tho last confcrenco official negotiations have not been resumed.and there appears to lie a feeling of irritation among a section of tho men at the delay in tho arrangements. An agreement has already been made that when tho conditions are revised actinggangers and second officers aro to bo excluded from their operation. But they
have been assured of an increase commensurate with that granted to the general body of the tramwaymen. These men, it is said, are inclined to view' with dissatisfaction the delay in. securing this proferment. It is stated that the position is now likely to be satisfactorily determined and that a new agreement, granting an all round increase in wages, will bo signed within a few days.
