MANAGER SEEN BY REPORTER. (By Telegraph,—Prces A«ibclatlon.> Waihl, May 22. As considerable interest attaches to tho development works at the bottom level, a reporter sought an interview to-day with the superintendent (Mr. Barry) with regard to tho niattcr. The first question put was in connection with tho water in No. i shaft.
"Probably," said Mr. Barry, "tho water tapped is connected with tlio roof system, and until No. 5 shaft, wliero tho main pumping is done, is sunk to the required depth, tho natural sets in tho water will remain. In No. 4 shaft tho necessary sinlcing, etc., will occupy eoino months, and meanwhile, tho development work at No. 10 level, is progressing iust as it was prior to the invasion of water into No. i shaft. It makes not tlio slightest differenco to progress in tho reefs. At No. 10 tho water has onljr stopped for (the timo being the further sinking of No.I & shaft. Tho principal work in hand at No. 10" level ig tho driving east and west oil tho Empire and Royal lodes respectively. Driving on tho new reef at this lovel is also in progress."
Referring to No. 2 shaft Mr. Barry 6aid that the shaft was down to water level, and was down as far as they intended sinking it. They were opening out at No. 10 level at this shaft with tho intention of driving for the Edward lode, and tho lodo would bo first intersected from this point. Referring to the installation of electrio power plant at Horahora and the dregress of transmission lines Mr. Barry said that the dato of completion oould not bo determined.
