It will be remembered that nearly a month a"o tho board was hastily summoned on tlv eve of the election at tho request of the of Hospitals (Dr. Vaiintine), who proposed that the instructions "iven io the Medical Superintendent of the"Hospital (Dr. Hardwick Smith), on leaving lor England, to engage a -bacteriologist 1):; cancelled, and that tho Government bacteriologist in Wellington (Ml. Hurley) be appointed joint bacteriologist, for tlie Government and the Hospital Hoard The arrangement included tlio use of til" l'ew bacteriological laboratory at thn hospital bv Mr. Hurley, the acquisition bv tho board of the Government s plant 'and an equal liability respecting «-ilarr« This was airroed to, and a cable was dispatched to Dr. Smith cancelling the instruction mentioned. o\v the ke\. 11.
