THE NEWMARKET SEAT. By Tclograph—Press Association—Oonyrisrlit London, May 18. The by-election for Newmarket to fill the vacancy caused by Sir C. Rose's death resulted: — Sir John Denison-Pender (Unionist) 5,251 Mr. G. Nicholls (Liberal) 4,400 Mr. Nicholls attributes his defeat to Unionist misrepresentation regarding the Insurance' Act, while Sir J. DenisonI'ender declares that his victory was due to dislike to the Insurance Act. [At the' last General Election, Sir Charles Rose (Liberal)' polled 478G votes against 4387 in favour of his opponent, Mr. G. H. Verrall (Conservative), who was tho sitting member.]
