A PLUCKY RESCUE. MR. ADCOCK SAVES ANOTHt' MAN. SHIP BROADSIDE ON. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Marton, May 13. All'. Adcock, second officer of the Incli'nbarali, Ims boon again distinguishing himself as a fearless and strong swimmer, and this morning ho undoubtedly saved (lie life of another seaman of tho unfortunate vessel. A special message to-day says that when a party from Hulls arrived at tho leach this morning a boat was in the water beside the ship, and its crew were apparently trying to take a line ashore. Two attempts were made, and in the first tho boat was nearly capsized. The wash was down tho coast, and immediately tho boat was driven out of tho lee of 'the vessel she got into difficulties and had to put back. Another attempt was equally unsuccessful, and then one of the boat's creiv jmnpwl overboard with a lino attached to him in an effort to swim ashore in the heavy sea. However, ho soon got into difficulties, and after struggling for a timo he had to sever the line. As ho was senn to be nearly exhausted, tho second mate, Mr. Adeoek, plunged in to his assistance, and often a severe effort brought him to land, Mr. Adcock also becoming very exhausted. A little later those on board tho ship attached a length of sowing twino to a tin, which was floated towards shore, and Mr. Adcock swam out and brought this to.land. Thicker lines were successfully attached to the twino and each other, and eventually n one and a half-incli rope was got ashore, and constant communication with tho ship is now possible. Marton, May 13. Information received this morning states that the Indrabarah cannot lie reached by horseback at low tide. The Ternwhiti is standing near by. UNPROMISING OUTLOOK.. SALVAGE PREPARATIONS. At eight o'clock Inst night the Secretary of Hie Post and Telegraph Department r<y cciyed a telegram from the postmaster at Bulls stating that the Indrabarah's position was much the same as on Monday, with tho exception that tho vessel is now almost broadside on to the beach. Tho high sea was continuing and tho outlook lor the ship was not at all promising. lJ'ivato advices received from Wanganui yesterday stated tliat the Union Company s salvage tug Terawhiti had put into the mouth of tho "Wangnmii River, and was alongside tho Cnstlecliff Wharf at 1.30 p.m. JLlio little vessel will talw in bunker coal, stores, and water before leaving for .the Indrabarah. Tho messap, which was sent at 2 p.m. yesterday, suited that thero was a westerly galo blowing. Ijany s Slormbird, which left Wellington lor \\auganui last evening, took away a, largo, surf boat, fitted with iv strong motor engine, and also-some rocket apparatus. . Tho- boat and tho rocket gun will bo transferred to tho Terawhiti at Wangamii to-day, and taken to thosccno of tlw mishap. Tho rocket apparatus will bo useful as a moans of cifocting direct communication with tho shore instead Of having to wait until the incoming tide takes ti bottle or a (in aslioro from the ship. Provided tho weather is favourable, (ho motor-driven surf boat'should lie of prat assistance to thoso engaged in salvage operations. Mr. Daniels,, salvago expert for tho Union Company, leaves .Wellington by tho New Plymouth express for the near ait railway station to the scene of thewtcck this morning.
