HOSPITAL LEVIES.
KARORI COUNCIL'S PROTEST. Tho Karori Borough Council, at its meeting last evening, adopted (withou/t discussion) tho following motions by Councillor W. Skegg:— "That tlie IvaTori Borough Council: "(a) Protest against the extraordinary and continuous incireaso in tho Hospital and Charitabto Aid Board levy, -and considers that, a limit should bo fixed by law as to tlio percentage of levy to population. .. "(b) Protest against the method at present in force of collecting rates for tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board from direct ratepayers only, and considers that the community as a whole should bear suck expense. ■ . "(c) That this council urges upon the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board tho necessity of insisting upon receiving payment from those patients who can well afford, to pay, but wont. "(d) That a cony of theso resolutions be forwarded to tlie 'member for the district and to tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board." In connection with the pending conference of representatives of local bodies, to be teld- shortly to consider the matter of hospital levies, the Mayor was appointee! to act as the council's delegate.
