DEAD ON* THE ROAD. ! (By Telegraph.—Press Association.). | Blenheim, May 13. I On Saturday a - wagon loaded with coal and stores wont from Renwick to Glongyle. At Wairau Valley Michael Hunter I and Arthur Rcav jumped in tho wagon and lay on top of the load. It is alleged that they were under tho influence of liquor. Alter going ten miles Hunter was missed, but tho ..wagoner continued tho journey. Next morning the driver (Clemens) returned to scircl; for nunter. Hunter was found five miles back on tho track, dead. Ho is supposed to have fallen off tho wagon. At the inquest a verdict of death from exposure, accelerated by deceased's alcoholic condition, was returned. ELDERLY WOMAN'S DEATH. Christchurch, May 13. Anna West, aged 72 years, died at the hospital x as tin) result of wounds in the left arm, believed to have been self-in-flicted. She rcsidttl with a s'jn at St. Albans. At the inquest the evidence showed that yesterday deceased was found in her bedroom bleeding from cuts which she had inflicted with a razor. A verdict was returned of death, from weakness, accelerated by shock caused by wounds selfinflicted by deceased whilo temporarily of unsound mind: CHOKED TO DEATH. Auckland, May 13. The Superintendent of Police received a telegram from Constable O'Connor, at Manganui this afternon, stating that a gum-digger at Tolce, Ohia, named Charles Dolkins, was choked to death whilo at tea in his whare last evening, through swallowing a piece of moat. Deceased, who wa« a single man. about 50 years of age, was a native of Germany. ACCIDENT '"ON THE WHARF. A serious accident occurred on the wharf just after seven o'elwk last evening. The viotim.was James Jcseph Cronin, who was assisting at unloading operations. when a bundle of shins slipped out of a sling, and. after falling a distance of .15 feet, struck him on the head. Br. Faulke attended Cronin, who was afterwards removed to the public hospital. He is suffering severely from shock, his back is injured, and he received internal iniuries. Cronin is a married mail, and he lives at No. 2 l'oro Street, liilbiriiie.
